Denise L. Spitzer, PhD

Dr. Denise L. Spitzer (she/her/elle) is a Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta and an Adjunct Professor in the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa where she was the Canada Research Chair in Gender, Migration, and Health from 2005-2015. 

Projects

Dr. Spitzer employs a dynamic, multi-scalar lens to examine how global processes intersect with various social identifiers, such as gender, racialization, migration status, sexuality, and ethnicity. Her work sheds light on the ways these factors shape individuals’ lives and communities. Through participatory and qualitative methods, including arts-based approaches, Dr. Spitzer collaborates with community partners, graduate students, and fellow researchers. The ultimate goal is to inform policy, advocacy, and community action.
